Bye Bye Creatives, Bloggers, & Grease Monkeys

by Jared on March 29th, 2006

Don’t you just love it when magazines make profound statements about the future? That’s right - I’m talking FAST COMPANY Magazine!

Their newest issue features 6 jobs that won’t exist in 2016 and guess who doesn’t get the ax?  Marketers! (At least the ones that happen to show their ROI from time-to-time).

I can’t say I am surprised by their predictions but it’s always fun to see what they do and do not say explicitly.  Do you have thoughts on the matter?

20SMF Consumer Report - Tab Energy Drink

by Jared on March 26th, 2006

One of the great things about being a 20-something includes the endless barage of consumer products forced upon us. As a service to our readers, the 20SMF is proud to bring you the first in a series of “Try It Before You Buy It” reports on consumer products.

Today, my friend Amanda (the VP, Randomness for the 20SMF) and I were at the local mall (BIG surprise there, I know). As we were riding the elevator, our attention was drawn to an obnoxiously pink booth in the food court. We decided to check it out.

Apparently, Coke is entering the energy drink market with a two-pronged strategy. The first is of course coke black aimed at truckers. The second is a white collar and feminine brand, Tab Energy.

That’s right - we said Tab. Long sought after in the dusty corners of supermarket shelves by aging 80’s party girls, Tab makes its comeback as the Coke alternative to Red Bull.

Yahoo!: 20SMF is #1 Business Podcast!

by Jared on March 25th, 2006

Apparently, the 20SMF podcast is now the # 1 ranked podcast on the Yahoo! Podcast business listings!!!!
We're #1, We're #1
You know, I don’t usually give a damn about these things but since I have been muddled in the top 10 since I Yahoo began listing podcasts – this is at least worth the bragging rights.

Thanks everyone for making this a smash podcast!

Best,
Jared

I’m starting to see a pattern

by Jared on March 22nd, 2006

The fun thing about being in a non-operational department (i.e. marketing) is that to get anything out, you usually have to go through gueess what? An operational department.

What happens when your work is meant to correct the failures of an operational department but to do so, it means going through the same failed processes? Your work fails as well.

I am starting to see a pattern here.

Even though one of my largest development objectives is to become more patient and calm in these matters some people really need to have snakes released in their cubes.

So much for that

GW had a great run and held Duke to a less than 15 point lead.  Unfortunatley, its over for us this year.

Its ok though, who likes Duke anyway?  Seriously.  Besides Duke students and alumni, people pretty much think they are {explicative deleted}.

So, in the words of my friend Samantha, “Go to hell Duke,” and good luck with the rest of the tourney!

All I have to say is…

by Jared on March 16th, 2006

Hail to the buff n’ blue!

GW ALL THE WAY!!!

Sorry for the OT post but it had to be said…
