MBA Spin: Hark! The 1st Deadline Approaches
by Jared on October 30th, 2006
Just to give the illusion that I’m still alive, here’s an update a la MBA Spin:
It’s Monday morning and I am in the office earlier than I usually am so I can prep myself mentally for what might just be the most intense week of my life. The reason this week is important is that with one deadline looming on November 1st (Wednesday, scary enough) and several more on the horizon for next week, I have decided that by the end of this week, 3 of my 4 first round applications will get done this week.
Add this to my project board which is already filled lengthwise with outstanding items that I need to get people to approve and you’ve got yourself a regular horse race! Just for safety sake, I dropped by Firehook Bakery this morning to pick up some pre-emptive I’m-sorry-for-being-a-neurotic-mess muffins for my co-workers. With any luck, they may just take pity on me when my head explodes from re-writing my essays for the 5th time.
As for the show, I have plenty of content that just needs to be edited and posted thanks to the Out for Work conference. Hopefully, that will happen on Wednesday (again, only if my head doesn’t explode when I hit the “Submit Application†button) but if it doesn’t I will be sure to fill you in on my progress.

New Episode Tomorrow…I Promise!
by Jared on October 12th, 2006
Ok, so 15 days without a post or a new episode is a stretch but believe me when I tell you I have an excuse…
You see, in an attempt to take what I’ve learned in the last year or so about podcasting and the power of the internet, I’ve also been taking notes on how a medium like this can be integrated into a more traditional marketing plan. This meticulous effort came to a head a couple of months ago when I finally drew up a plan that convinced our CEO and SVPs that we could use this medium to reach a younger audience and to tout the expertise of certain executives.
So for the last couple of weeks, I have been getting our company’s show ready to debut for our internal audiences leaving me very little time to work on my own show. It’s an experience that explains to me why most chefs hate to cook for themselves after a long day cooking for others. In particular, there is only so much time one person can spend in front of an audio editor.
Combine that experience with drafting MBA admissions essays and tracking down my old boss to ask him for a recommendation and you’ve got yourself 2 weeks of very little free time to spare.
To make it up to you, I am going to forgo the episode I have in production and do another edition of the 20-Something Roundtable tonight. So look for a new show tomorrow morning featuring a “round-the-horn-esque†MBA Spin report from my first MBA interview.
Cheers!
Best,
Jared
