Ever wonder what it would feel like to have one of your best friends calls you up to ask, “did you know you were quoted in Newsweek?” Yeah, now I know.

My friend Steph called me this morning to alert me to the fact that a recent post I did on my business school blog at OwenBloggers.com was quoted in a recent web-article on the word “w00t;”

“But w00t has done just the opposite: it started on the keyboard, made its way into SMS texting, then into writing, until it was finally spoken out loud….”This momentous selection is just another sign that the American lexicon is increasingly defined not by scholars but by raving lunatic bloggers like us,” writes Jared, a blogger on Owenbloggers.com”

Now normally, I don’t consider a ton of what I write to appeal to mass audiences. In fact, the very nature of writing about business and marketing makes me, by default, a niche blogger. That’s exactly why when someone tells me that a popular newsmagazine thinks I am on-point enough to cite, I begin to realize that blogging is a much more powerful tool than most people think.

Think about it, where else would you be able to add “have been quoted in Newsweek” to your list of accomplishments in an interview?

Chief Contributor’s Note:

Today, 20-Something Marketing added another new contributor. Daksh has a fantastic, global view of marketing and his voice will add new depth and perspective to the blog. Here’s an introduction to him, in his own words.

It is a privilege to share some thoughts at this fantastic forum. Jared, thank you so much for being so kind and inviting me.

About me

My name is Daksh, and I am based out of India’s capital city New Delhi. I hold a technology mba and an undergraduate in computers engineering from Indian schools. I also have a KM certification from LTU, Sweden. Apart from 20-Something Marketing I blog here at http://themarketingblog.wordpress.com

Jared and I

My friendship with Jared dates back to the time since he had launched his podcast on iPhone ( mind you it has been quite a while since that podcast was featured. At that time probably Jared was one of the earliest podcasters to feature a show on iPhone.

Since then, thanks to our common interests in blogging, podcasting and not to forget “marketing” have lead to many discussions among the two of us. Be it the b-school scenario in US, be it podcasting or even rural marketing in India. Coming back to Jared, what I like about Jared is the manner in which he conducts his podcasts.

A background in technology coupled with an MBA degree makes me more of a techno-marketer. Probably, that is the reason why I am here to lend in some more inputs to this rocking platform for 20 somethings..

Allright, I would sign-off right now and would be back with an interesting story in my next post.

Daksh

Greetings Everyone!

First off, thanks for continuing to read and listen to 20-Something Marketing. Judging by the influx of comments and questions, its really great to see that our content is continuing to hit a chord with 20-something professionals.

Second, please welcome John Dawe, the first regular contributor (other than myself) to 20SM.

John is going to be able to pick up the intellectual slack in the area of web marketing where I can only pretend to dabble as an “expert.” His background as a marketing consultant is well-suited for this role and you can see his first official post below. Please make him feel welcome by leaving him some comments and letting us know if you have any web marketing questions you think he can answer.

Lastly, with my move to Nashville rapidly approaching and the demands on my time are becoming numerous, I haven’t been able to get down to putting out a new show.

Not only am I trying get the Marketing Diner off to a fantastic start, but I am also already having to face the reality of homework for the first time in four years (it’s a quantitative boot camp since marketers are apparently prone to forgetting everything about basic math).

What this all means is that you will see at least a couple more episodes this summer (including highlights of my trip to VA beach), but if you are looking for fresh content – get your browser over to the Marketing Diner where we are putting out new shows on a regular basis.

Again, its awesome to have readers like you and I really am working hard to keep the ideas flowing.

Between compulsively expanding “to-do” list prior to entering b-school and trying to cram whatever fun I can into the weekends I have left, there seems to be a nagging feeling that I am missing something.

Usually, summer is the time you take a break. This year however, between the debut of The Marketing Diner and school starting on Aug 13th, you can imagine that a break is the last thing I am going to get. There are times, however, when you get that pang of hunger for inspiration. There are times that just lend themselves to being the right time to come up with that next great idea.

For this, I wanted to pose the question to you, the people that make this “big idea” worthwhile. What should we do with the show? What is the next big idea for “20-Something Marketing?”

Here are some ideas that I batted around in my head:

1)	Create an feature series guide on how to survive life as a 20-Something professional
2)	Pass the torch onto a new host
3)	Discontinue new content creations and focus on MD and OB, exclusively..

This is the time to comment, or if not to publicly comment to e-mail me and tell me what you think. Should the show go on?

This just in: an integrated marketing campaign my department took on in 2006 has just been declared a finalist in the annual AMA-DC M Awards.

The campaign, dubbed RIGHT SIZE SOLUTIONS, was designed to leverage multiple medium (yes, including podcasts) in order to shift perceptions about our companies’ products and services. Apparently, the results were enough to get us into the top 3 of the Best B2B Integrated Marketing Campaign of 2006 category.

This means that this Thursday, I will be taking the show on the road to podcast from the M Awards.

Now…all that’s left to do is figure out what to wear!

Written one stop-gap sidebar article for our magazine,

Sent out 5 e-mails on 3 different projects,

Had a pedi-conference with the CEO,

And been given a mini-lecture by my boss about the chain of command because of said pedi-conference.

….I can already tell today is going to be a good day.

The point of this post is more just a re-cap more than anything else.

The iTunes Feed

I realize the iTunes feed has been wonky and I am taking steps to correct it. In fact, look for the last three episodes to be re-posted in rapid succession to get things straight in case you’ve been wondering why you’ve been getting old episodes under new titles.

Owen Welcome Weekend

Yes, I will be in Nashville this weekend for Vanderbilt-Owen’s Welcome Weekend. Look for blog postings at my OwenBloggers Feed as well as plenty of photos and/or video depending on how well I can balance things.

Next Episode

While I was in Atlanta, I did complete a new episode – more of a rant than anything else – and that should go up this weekend.

This should cover just about everything but in the meantime, send some love because I am totally in the marketing weeds right now and need to keep this momentum going to dig myself out.

I feel like I owe you folks a little bit of an apology. It’s been a little more than two weeks since I got out a brand new show (I mean, a real one – not just an OwenBlogger snippet) and honestly that specter is riding me like you wouldn’t believe.

Things on my end have been going well for the most part but there are a few aspects of my life that have completely drained me creatively. The ironic thing is that it’s taken a rainy day and a decision to get up early to hide myself in coffee and the WSJ to realize it.

As you can imagine, OwenBloggers has consumed a lot of my time just trying to get used to producing a new segment that will work for a more targeted, high-stakes audience. Add onto that the production complexities of an entirely new show concept, a mind-numbing regular workload and a romantic situation that I can’t figure out for the life of me and you’ve pretty much got yourself a horse race.

Ultimately, I just wanted to let you know that barring some catastrophic incident I will get out some sort of show early next week and it WILL include the interview with my boss that I have been promising. I will repeat – you will hear directly from my boss in my next episode.

Till next week folks, send some comment love because lord knows I could use some about now….

I am glad to say that I did some analysis of our stats today and here is what I found out:

We are up 7-10% per episode with 500 adjusted listeners per episode (how many people listen to the show within one month of its posting).

In the longer term, each episode gets its total listnership doubled after that first month as people are routinely going back and listening to older content.

We are also benefiting from another estimated 1000+ listeners per show thanks to OutRadio2, an internet radio station in Australia that has just begun re-broadcasting our shows on a regular schedule.

Thanks to everyone who is making this show a success and look out for more great content coming your way soon!

20-Something Marketing, the internet’s premier audio resource for marketing business and life for and by 20-something professionals is pleased to announce the promotion of Amanda to the position of Associate Executive Producer.

In her new position, Amanda will assume responsibility for not much more than she was doing previously in her position as Vice President of Randomness, which included serving as co-host/comic relief/camerawoman for 20SM’s bonus vidcasts. Her new role, will however, will include an increased presence as a regular co-host of the podcast as well as representing the show on special assignments that will include – but are not limited to – covering anime culture, ridiculous pop trends and keeping the primary host sane.

“It was an easy choice,” said Jared, 20-Something Marketing’s chief contributor and host. “After about a bottle of wine each, I am pretty sure I would have done a lot worse. The way I see it, this was a way to limit the damage.”

Ok, so 15 days without a post or a new episode is a stretch but believe me when I tell you I have an excuse…

You see, in an attempt to take what I’ve learned in the last year or so about podcasting and the power of the internet, I’ve also been taking notes on how a medium like this can be integrated into a more traditional marketing plan. This meticulous effort came to a head a couple of months ago when I finally drew up a plan that convinced our CEO and SVPs that we could use this medium to reach a younger audience and to tout the expertise of certain executives.

So for the last couple of weeks, I have been getting our company’s show ready to debut for our internal audiences leaving me very little time to work on my own show. It’s an experience that explains to me why most chefs hate to cook for themselves after a long day cooking for others. In particular, there is only so much time one person can spend in front of an audio editor.

Combine that experience with drafting MBA admissions essays and tracking down my old boss to ask him for a recommendation and you’ve got yourself 2 weeks of very little free time to spare.

To make it up to you, I am going to forgo the episode I have in production and do another edition of the 20-Something Roundtable tonight. So look for a new show tomorrow morning featuring a “round-the-horn-esque” MBA Spin report from my first MBA interview.

Cheers!

Best,
Jared

Due in part to a massively busy schedule and an impending nervous breakdown, there will be no new show this week.

The good news is that I will be publishing a Bonus Vidcast sometime very soon that promises to be humorous and enlightening….ok, so maybe just one of the two.
Stay Intense!

(Washington, DC) – 20-Something Marketing, the web’s foremost podcast resource and blog for young marketing professionals, today announced that episode downloads were up 14% in March to 1,105. This number represents the total number of unique listeners for all episodes as tracked by Podtrac.com, an online tracking service for the audio and video podcast market.”This just goes to prove that our listeners are our greatest asset. Over the last 3 months, we’ve focused on enhancing our content with more 20-something professional voices than ever. The result has been content that’s more topical, entertaining and actionable than anything we’ve ever done before.”20-Something Marketing Forum began as a podcast in July of 2005 to serve young professionals in business and marketing. Since then, it has grown to include its own website, mySpace group, and survey components catering to the growing needs of its members and listeners. 20SomethingMarketing.com now serves over 2,400 unique visitors per month, has produced 32 regular episodes and 8 special “bonus” vidcasts in the span of 9 months.Added Degnan, “Based on the great response to our latest content, I am really excited to roll out what we have in store for the next few months!”

20-Something Marketing is an entertaining and informative podcast and blog on life, business and marketing for and by 20-something professionals. For more information, visit http://20somethingmarketing.com.
